Here we are, the Seventh month of the year. Summer is in full swing here in North Carolina, with heat indexes of 108 I’d rather walk around like Sandy Squirrel from Sponge Bob with a fish bowl full of cold water on my head. Since that isn’t a valid option I’m trying to seek out all the AC vents I can.

June was a slow month but busy with freelance. I’ve taken 2 weeks off to enjoy life and take a little breather. Which has been amazing.

I rearranged my desk and writing space, kind of an in with the old and out with the new, I felt the energy was stagnant. I love silk flowers because I can’t keep real flowers living, how gorgeous is the silk orchid??

June’s Goals were as simple as I could make them, I don’t need anything overwhelming or super complicated to try and get through. 

I’m having a little bit of a hard time with my dad passing, I feel like the grieving process should be over? I feel like I should have already accepted that he’s in a better place with no pain than being here. I feel like I shouldn’t need to want to have conversations with him, or still have tears falling from my sore bloodshot eyes. He overcame everything else and those trails all took pieces of him with them when they left. Now I have pieces missing, I’d give anything to enjoy a banana split with him again.

July Goals:
Acceptance // Learning to accept things I can not change not even for the life of me. 

Daily Journal // this little task use to help me so much throughout middle school even into high school. A brain dump for the day gets everything out, so I can be re-read or pondered over. 

Yoga // I’ve fallen out of the practice. I find myself staring off into nowhere at least a handful of times a day. I can’t focus and I don’t get a lot of sleep. Yoga puts me at ease, clears my mind, and helps to balance my energy.

Painting // this new one is recent, so recent I’ve only painted one thing. I love the mindset I fall into try to get the colors just right or the lines as straight as a board. Painting gives me something to focus on that drowns my anxieties. 

Read // the books I have waiting for me to crack open are stacking up on my bookshelf. I’d like to read two books this month, I think I can do it. 

Listen // everyone has select hearing from time to time and it usually only happens when it is something we just don’t want to do. I understand! I’m also talking about listening to my body as well. I’ve been feeding it greasy cheeseburgers, tacos, and ice cream. It’s been showing me it’s not pleased by weight gain, fatigue, and all around sluggishness.

Herb Crusted flank steak

I had a craving for some meat! So I decided I’d cook, since it had been awhile, It turned out to be a great idea! The day was rainy and lazy so i whipped up some homemade horseradish sauce for the side too. I have a love hate relationship with horseradish sauce though.

I made fingerling potatoes and snow peas for the sides, which we quickly gobbled up.

Herb Crusted Flank Steak 

Ingredients:
2 tsp rosemary, finely minced
2 tsp thyme, finely minced
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
3 Tbsp olive oil
1 tsp each salt and pepper
2 lbs flank steak

Get cooking:
1. Chop the rosemary, thyme, and tarragon for the marinade. Next, mince some garlic, and add it to your herbs.
2. Drizzle in the olive oil and add pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Stir well.
3. Lay the flank steaks out over plastic wrap and pour the marinade right over. Rub in the marinade all over with your hands, make sure you don’t miss a spot.
4. Grill the steaks about five minutes on each side (for a beautiful medium steak).
5. Slice it into strips on a platter and serve.

Anxiety: A mental health disorder characterized by feelings of worry, anxiety, or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one’s daily activities.

Anxiety is a tricky monster that is currently along side almost 40 million people to date. For me my symptoms at any given time range from: fatigue, sweating, worrying, heart palpitations, not being able to focus, and irritability. Which may lead to a panic attack at any time.

In the mornings while I’m getting ready for work a flood of anxiety can come over me, if i let it. Thoughts of how bad traffic will be, if there is a wreck that will be sure to make me late, then onto how busy the day will be and if I will make any mistakes, or the mistakes I made a week before creep into my mind.

I sat down to try and help others that experience morning anxiety as well, you can read “setting up your morning to combat anxiety“ and hopefully find it helpful. I tried to pick up on anything and everything that helps me, to help you too.

Once you’re at work any triggers can be set off throughout the day. So you don’t find yourself locked in a bathroom stall or crying your eyes out in your car there are a few different ways to handle your anxieties at work.

Know your triggers – this is the very first tool in your toolkit. If you know your triggers then you’ll know what to watch for.

Build a grounding techniques – notice objects around you. Take notice of the sounds around you. Notice a scent coming from around you. By giving your brain something to distract from your anxieties you’ll gain a sense of calming.

Ask for what you may need – flexible scheduling, a mental health day.

Break things down – as long as your meeting your deadlines, you’ll be able to turn a task into several micro tasks. This will keep you focused and help with being overwhelmed.

Take a time out – take just a few minutes and take a few deep breaths. This is not hindering your work progress nor is it bothersome to anyone else around you. Although it may feel like your world is crashing in on you try to remember it’s not obvious to anyone else.

A few things to keep in mind when you’re anxious: you are bigger than your anxieties, don’t let them tell you how to feel, you are just giving into the feelings of your anxieties. Remember that it WILL pass, you will come out on the other side.

I like to keep my lavender essential oil with me at all times, just Incase I need a little dab behind the ears or across the wrist.

When I get home I’ll do some journaling about the day and how I felt to see if I by chance develop new triggers. I like to flow through my anxiety yoga sequence  as well.

Monthly Goals: June 2018

Freelancing // I’d like to expand a little. Although I work 5 days every 2 weeks at the part time job I’d like to pick up another freelance client or two. I am currently working with one and I absolutely love it! I feel like I am getting my footing.

Time management // I am horrible at time management, even when I KNOW I have things to do I may wait until the last minute to get it done. So I am going to try working on this in June. I’ll try by waking up 5-10 minutes earlier each week instead of peeling myself out of bed, taking a 5 minute shower, then rushing to get dressed and head out the door.

Saying no // I’ve been practicing this very recently, to say no to things that I don’t find suit me or on days I know I need a break. I recently said no to a day out and opted for a massage. Needless to say I felt great days afterwards too.

Blog // I would one to focus on the blog too. I’d love for this month to be the best month since I’ve owned this domain. The first six months of owning it I didn’t really do anything with it, I’d like to change that. June 21st is my one year blog anniversary, I can’t believe how fast time has gone by!

Meditation // I’m rather new to meditation. Though I’ve done yoga for years I’ve never gotten into meditation. People I’ve talked to who do meditate praise it, so I’m going to give it a try. With every little thought giving way to four different thoughts, I need a way to clear my mind and give it a break.

These are in no real order who has time for that, but I hope I’ll get slightly better with organizing too.

It’s not unusual for them to get rowdy and act out, as they may feel like you are abandoning them. When you move, make sure that you update their microchip information with your new address. If you’ve moved far enough away that you need a new vet, ask your current vet for recommendations of vets in your new area. Don’t let your pet out without a leash
With the exception of fenced yards, don’t let your pet outside of your new home without a leash. Even if your pet is usually very docile and has never attempted to escape before, the new environment can be frightening and cause your pet to try to escape to try to return to their previous home. It can take months for your pet to feel comfortable in their new environment, so be patient with them during this transition as they get to know their new space.

It’s a new space for your pet and some pets aren’t very good with change, so anything like a comfy comfortable bed and an all natural treat may help them to settle in a little easier.
