10 Things People Don’t Understand About Me

10 Things People Don’t Understand About Me

I do a lot of things friends and family question. There is a lot more than ten things but you know, why not turn this thing into a series?? Jk, I won’t do that.

I chose the ten that I get questioned about more than most.

10 Things People Don’t Understand About Me

I’m an introvert // sure I seem cool calm and collected while I’m laughing but in reality I’m always looking at the door. I enjoy all of my friends company, I love them I do. I just like being alone in my own space.

Crowds freak me out // the world is mutating into a different place than it was when our parents were our age. It freaks me out to be around 15 strangers or more at any time. Maybe I watch too much ID Network but it’s made me cautious. I don’t know what those people are thinking or how they’re feeling; they could be simmering to attack whenever!

Why all the hand sanitizer // you have no idea how hard it is to be a germaphobe, hah or maybe you do. Everything you touch sticks to your fingertips! Think about what you touch all day everyday.

I eat dessert first // when going to dinner I usually have a sweet treat in mind, so I order it first. If I’ve still got a little room I’ll order an entree to box up and take home. My sweet tooth pretty much rules my life.

What’s with two part times // I have two part time jobs as opposed to one full time job because things just worked out that way. I actually love it because I’m doing different jobs on different days so it breaks up the week a little.

Freelance writer // I’m trying to start a freelance writing business. I want to focus on creative writing and blog articles with advanced SEO for the time being. I love writing so much!

Horrible car sickness // Yup, que the all natural Dramamine! This stuff is a life savor! I’ve been driving myself around since I could drive myself. I don’t like being a passenger, it’s boring over there. Matt likes giving me a break while he drives us so I always have Dramamine on hand. I didn’t the first time I rode with him and I turned a 45 minute trip into an hour 1/2.

Why listen to songs four times // I love music with all of myself! I love all types and love finding new bands & songs (leave your favorite for me to check out). I listen to songs at least four times the first time. I do this because I listen to the words the first 2 times then the actual music the last two times.

Meditation practices // I have so much going on in my mind at this point in my life. I need a quiet place to retreat to, to find answers, to be able to focus. I get a lot of “whys” but that doesn’t bother me, it’s not really anyone else’s concern what I choose to do not to lose my mind.

Showering before a bath // I’m not bashing anyone who doesn’t shower before taking a bath, in the only person I know that does. I take a bath to relax or detox my body. I don’t want anything extra like dirt and what not in my bath with me.

Homemade Honey And Oat Energy Balls

Homemade Honey And Oat Energy Balls

I am not a good breakfast eater. I have to be awake for awhile before I am even hungry. I feel a little nauseous if I make myself eat in the mornings when I’m not hungry.

I know to get my metabolism jump started I need to eat a little something. I love breakfast bars but I don’t love what’s in them most of the time.

I personally think this recipe is the holy grail of all healthy breakfast balls (I’ve also been called a liar, but this one is SO good!) Because with honey, peanut butter, & rolled oats as the base – what’s not to love??

I will be eating these (on the way) at work so I didn’t want to make them as bars so I decided to roll them into bite size balls. They can be stored a lot easier and they’re perfect for popping one in your mouth at the desk or in commute.

Healthy Breakfast Balls

1 cup of honey
3/4 cup of peanut butter
2 1/2cups of rolled oats

Dried cranberries
Dark chocolate chunks

1. Put the peanut butter and honey in a medium mixing bowl.

Mix peanut butter and honey
2. Place in microwave and heat for 15 seconds. (You want to soften the ingredients together rather than melt them)
3. Throughly mix honey and peanut butter until well blended.

Blend the honey & peanut butter together
4. Add in the oats, then fold into peanut butter and honey mixture. (a cup at a time helps to blend all the ingredients throughly)

Mix In the rolled oats
5. Place mixture onto wax paper and spread about 1/2 an inch. (You can also used a greased rectangle pan)
6. Set in fridge for 5-6 hours to let the bar set.

7. Use a spoon to measure the amount of the bar you desire.
8. Use spoon or hands to roll into bite sized balls.

If you think you’d like this recipe please share it on Twitter or Pinterest! I’d love to know if you give it a try too!

Monthly Goals: January 2018

Monthly Goals: January 2018

I like a lot of people are terrible at keeping New Years resolutions. I hardly think about making a resolution until it’s almost New Years anyway.

I shall write them down, concentrate on them one by one then put them in my little (manifesting) box, wish them the best of luck while they make their way into manifestations, and hopefully meet them again sometime this year.

If you don’t believe in manifesting then so be it. However, I do. I joined a group of 39k who do as well. It’s a beautiful thing.

January Goals:

Practice gratitude journaling:
Gratitude journals have captured my attention in 2017. I haven’t started one because I get a little bit of anxiety trying to figure out what to put in it (yes, I know that defeats its purpose, hehe).

Read one book:
I think in 2017 I only read three books.. just three! It doesn’t make any sense to me either! I have a reading list that keeps getting longer by the day.

Keep bow practicing:
On my birthday (December 18th) I bought myself a pink Diamond (they are a girls best friend, right?) Bowtech bow. I will not use it for hunting as I do not have the heart to hurt animals (not saying you don’t care about their little furry being if you are a hunter. Ya gotta eat).

Schedule out February’s blog posts:
I really want to gain more attention to the blog. I’m starting to obsess over the numbers to the point my heart breaks a little when I have an off day. What do YOU as a reader want to read around here? I’d like to get so organized that I have a month a head scheduled out.

Walk at least 5 miles weekly (sprinkled with running) & track with Fitbit:
I was in the best shape of my life in 2015. I was eating great, running four times a week, I even ran my first half marathon! I was proud of myself in 2015, right now is a completely different tune. I’m 15 pounds heavier (lots of anxiety and depression met me in 2017. This year, it’s time to shed it!

Drink at least 70oz of water a day:
Why is it so easy to like 30 shots of tequila (Gatorade, Protein shake, anything of your choice really) but I can barely do 18 ounces of water daily. I have water in my coffee (bean juice) does that count for anything?

Complete two yoga sessions a week:
I love love love yoga! L.O.V.E-I.T!! When feeling anxious it helps calm me, it even helps me sleep  and stay that way until my alarm blazes through my welcoming dreams. Guided yoga is great (yes I found the yoga channel the satellite provides)! The voices are so calming and you can see the poses as they’re performed.

You go ahead and hulk smash those goals for the month! Show them who is boss while your beating them about the head and shoulders.

If you find you’ve become a little distracted- that’s not a problem. Stop, take a few deep breathes, continue to plow through them.

This is a new month of a new year; where anything is possible!

7 Favorite Christmas Scents

7 Favorite Christmas Scents

You’ll find a few affiliate links sprinkled throughout this post, you can read the full disclosure here.

I love Christmas scents probably the most out of all scents ever! Maybe because Christmas is my favorite time of year; I love the warm glow of the lights, the smell of the Christmas tree, and of course baking, decorating, & devouring homemade sugar cookies!!

I think I might’ve become kind of a candle snob in July? Around the time i started working at the candle shop. I absolutely love them which is great considering I have about 30 22oz candles; so much so I have an inventory of them all in spreadsheet form.

Maybe it’s weird but I love good smelling things; cats, dogs, armpits, cars, restaurants… Whenever I’m out in public I get a little upset if I can’t smell myself – I don’t want to smell bad.

The obsession with candles has sparked a fire (see what I did there? Hehe) this year and I am all over the Christmas candles! I am all over smelling them all, thank goodness for coffee beans (they help clear the nose pallet) or my nose would probably cut itself from my face to run away.

It took a little pondering however I did it! I have picked the very best (in my opinion) Christmas scents to share with you all. If these do not sound like your idea of a smellebration then (your wrong jk) that’s ok because to each is their own and variety is the spice of life.

7 Favorite Christmas Scents #christmas #candles #scent #festive

How the fragrances are arranged in what order the scent is received through your nose pallet. While the candle is either sitting or burning all of the notes are combined to create the full effect of the entire candles scent.

The fragrance notes go as followed:
• Top note is the initial impression of the fragrance
Middle note is the main body of the scent
Base is its final impression.

Yankee Candle’s “Balsam & Clove”
Fragrance Notes:
Top note: Clove, Fresh Balsam, Cinnamon
Middle note: Cassia (spice from bark of east Asian evergreen), Pine
Base: Cedarwood, Amber

Yankee Candle’s “Cherries on snow
Fragrance Notes:
Top note: Fruit, Cherry, Almond, Sweet Citrus
Middle note: Spicy Cinnamon, Tart Cherries
Base: Musk

Yankee Candle’s “Red Apple Wreath
Fragrance Notes:
Top note: Golden Apples, Cinnamon Leaf, Clove
Middle note: Apple Peel, Cracked Walnuts, Brown Sugar
Base: Amber, Melted Butter, Maple Syrup, Vanilla

Yankee Candle’s “Holiday Bayberry
Fragrance Notes:
Top note: Clove, Nutmeg, Lemon
Middle note: Apple, Pine, Lavender
Base: Fir Balsam, Patchouli, Amber

Did you know?:  Trimming your wick to 1/8-inch helps the candle burn evenly. The length helps create complete combustion which means less soot is formed.

The WoodWick company has been around for a little while but it seems like not everybody has seen them in action. I like burning these at night with the lights off and the tv turned down or completely off. WoodWick makes their candles with a soy base but have an intriguing natural wooden wick.

the pluswick innovation of the wooden wicks creates a crackling sound, such as a fireplace. Between the ambiance and the unique crackle of the wick these candles are perfect for relaxation. I like to pair mine with a Lush bubble bar bath.

WoodWick’s “Frasier Fur
“This fragrance truly captures the essence of fresh-cut fir on a crisp winter morning.”

WoodWick’s “Hot Toddy”
“Tempting notes of ground cinnamon and nutmeg swirl with caramel-drizzled apples and sweet maple wine.”

WoodWick’s “Crimson Berries”
“Juicy Christmas berries blended with a touch of warm spice and mistletoe essence”

If you like candles even a little bit I’d say check out the WoodWick’s if you want to have your mind blown and relaxed at the same time. If your not into holiday scents check out the White Tea & Jasmine or the Lavender Spa scent.

A Tiny Solution

A Tiny Solution

One thing about me is that I like close spaces, they make me feel safe. I was in a tornado when I was three years along (along with my mother & brother) that almost killed us.

Being three years old this shook me to my little core; I spent the night at my grandparents house for about 6 years after that dreadful night. I simply didn’t trust to be in the home I shared with my family. It was a brand new home but still on the same land the tornado hit. My little brain couldn’t comprehend that I would be safe that the tornado was just a fluke.

Looking back on things that tornado helped shape me into the person I am. I think that is where my anxiety started, and that be so? I was only three. I wouldn’t spend the night with anyone and my mom said at night I’d pace until my grandma picked me up.

What is weird though is I’m not scared of the dark, I love storms, rain is one of my favorite things ever, and I feel peaceful on rainy days.

I can’t explain how excited I was to see a tv show on HGtv that showcased these tiny houses. I thought they were so adorable! After binge watching the show for a few hours (don’t judge) I decided I will have a tiny house.

I think it would be a fun little place to live and I would feel comfortable, so let the savings begin!

I’ve got a design in mind but want it to be at least 800sq ft – not the 670sq ft that is pictured. I really love the design of the house with its levels and the lounge upstairs, Quin will love looking at the birds and other wildlife animals all day.

It’s a tiny solution, I love this tiny house plan! #tinyhouse #home #tinyhome #lifestyle

Self Care 101

Self Care 101

Self care has become very important to me over the last few months. I’ve been going none stop since August (which is why there aren’t a lot of posts yet; I am in a busy rut that will hopefully pass in the next month or so) so I need a variety of ways to relax and de-stress.

I have horrible anxiety yet i decided to take a retail job I thought was going to be part time that is actually full time along with a part time freelance business and a part time insurance receptionist job.

Tweet: What’s your favorite self care routine? https://ctt.ac/gN30W+ I like taking detox baths! #selfcare #bloggers #lbloggers #bbloggers #fbloggers

Self care 101 - take a little time for you #selfcare #inspire #rest #relax

What is self care?
Self care is the care provided by you for yourself. It is the importance of knowing what you need and doing activities that help nurture you. Self care is a way of treating yourself, kind of the way you treat others.

What are ways you can practice self care:

  • Take a bath with an amazing bath salt
  • Try yoga
  • Bake up a new recipe
  • Try doing a 15 minute meditation
  • Do something creative creative
  • Read a book
  • Go for a walk (without your phone)
  • Turn off your phone for an hour or so
  • Get a manicure/pedicure
  • Take a little nap to recharge
  • Watch your favorite movie
  • Binge on a bowl of ice cream
  • Buy yourself a new outfit
  • Buy a new piece of Jewelry
  • Note 10 things you are grateful for in that moment
  • Buy yourself flowers (flowers always put me in a good mood. The colors are so pretty to look at)
  • Call your bestie and have a lunch date
  • Get rid of 2 things you don’t use anymore
  • Repeat positive affirmations (I love doing this every morning myself)

I love taking a bath with one of Lush’s new bubble bars, it helps me relax at the moment and it makes my skin feel so soft, which makes me feel great all day or night. On days I need to give my endlessly wondering mind I will read a book (I’ve been reading self help books lately. That and freelancing books to up my game) to give my brain something else to focus on other than my not so great decisions.

There are so many ways you can self care for yourself, anything that makes you happy and sets your mind at ease. We all need to take a little break from the madness that this loud life has to offer us.
